The summer is coming to an end, and what a ride it has been. It felt like the major theme of my summer was re-purposing my life, thinking through the path I’m currently on, versus the path I want to be on.
It’s involved a lot of reflection, tears, joys, failures, mostly because I felt forced to make this decision to change the trajectory of my life, after a painful but necessary experience. Part of this reflection has led to me learning to embrace my heightened sensitivity. All my life, I’ve been made to believe that being ‘overly’ sensitive is a weakness, so you can imagine how freeing switching my perspective on it has been.
Realizing there are other people like me has been tremendously comforting and has given me the right tools to navigate life better, and create energy boundaries as an empath. I feel so thankful to be at this point – a major milestone in my self love journey.
I got to a point where I needed to understand the way I reacted to life. It was starting to feel overwhelming and my self esteem was also getting affected by the false beliefs I had about myself. I decided to do a series of personality tests and spoke to a few professionals before coming to realize I was an empath. If you’ve never heard of this term before, or if you suspect you might be an empath/highly sensitive individual, I suggest taking a look at these articles I found online:7 Signs that You are an Empath, Traits Empathic People Share ,and this TED Talk on The Gentle Power of Highly Sensitive People. I hope they’re somewhat helpful for you, however, keep in mind that all these signs may not exactly be applicable to you. Chances are, though, that if you can relate to most of them, you could also benefit from resources that provide “Survival Tips” for empaths, and ways to build energetic boundaries, especially in a world dominated by less sensitive people.
It’s unfortunate that highly sensitive people are told constantly to “toughen up” or “stop being so sensitive”. That’s like telling a puppy to stop being a puppy (sorry I couldn’t think of a better example lol, but you get the point :D). There’s so much beauty that comes with experiencing life on a deeper level, and I missed out on so many learning opportunities, ignoring my instincts and my true self, in trying to “toughen up”. My hope is that we continue to evolve into a world that is more tolerant about human differences, whether it’s in personalities, cultures, race, socio-economic backgrounds, etc..
I could go on all day about this, and I’m happy to chat about your journey if you think you’re a fellow empath, so feel free to shoot me an email or a DM. We empaths need to encourage each other, lord knows I need it every now and then. <3
This outfit was so much fun putting together. I usually don’t mix bold prints with a lot of color but I wanted to try something different that incorporated the woven bag summer trend. I picked up this Nina Flare Dress from Ife’s Closet, and I’m in love with it! I decided to pair it with some cut pom-pom earrings, this gorgeous woven purse and a pair of converses to keep the look casual.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by and reading, and I hope you have an amazing long weekend. Remember to take time out for yourself.
I’m off to Lake Chelan for the long weekend to soak up the rest of summer before the rain in Seattle is back, so be sure to follow me on Instagram for updates 🙂
