Salut mes beautés intelligentes! I haven’t used that greeting in a while, takes me back to the days where I was obsessed with learning French. Another thing I haven’t done in a while is share some of the designers that have been inspiring me lately on here. I’ve been more focused on pushing my limits on what I can do creatively, but sometimes it feels good to sort of go back to the roots of what has always inspired me with Fashion. It just feels..refreshing. And that’s exactly what I get when I look at any of the collections Viktor & Rolf have released in the passed couple of years.
For this post, I’ve shared some of my favorites from their Spring 2017 Couture collection because the message behind the collection is one that the universe seems to keep sending my way during this period of my life and is literally in line with the inspiration behind my last post (here). For this collection, they took apart old, damaged party dresses from as far back as the 40s and all those disparate pieces in each look were chosen to represent fragments of lives lived. The strategic placing of the gold that encircles them borrows from Kintsugi once again (referencing my last post), which is the Japanese practice of repairing pottery in a way that highlights the cracks with gold, to turn its broken form to a new product with more beauty.
The message behind this is meant to be hopeful – that all fragmented pieces can be put together again. Other than being completely enamored by the brilliance of their work with this collection, I feel empowered by this message of resilience. We all experience hardship and pain in life, but there’s so much beauty and lessons to take from these experiences, as hard as they may be to identify in the face of the storm. This collection for me served as a great reminder that we go through fire to come out stronger, to build character, to increase our level of awareness and to bloom into the individuals we were created to be.
I hope this reminder brings light to your day and helps you start of your week on a positive and encouraging note. 🙂
As always, thank you for stopping by and reading <3.
